What is the total cost of participating in Odyssey of the Mind?
In understanding the fee structure for this program it is important that you realize this program is run entirely by volunteers. The fees charged help to pay for the awards and other expenses of putting on a tournament. Each of the organizations will require a separate check made out to their organization.
Creative Competitions, Inc. – Odyssey of the Mind
The Odyssey of the Mind membership which you purchase through Creative Competitions Inc. allows you to enter one team per problem per division in competition. A member may be a school, a recognized community group, or a college or university. The International membership fee is $135. Each additional membership for the same school or community group is discounted to $100 each. The check is written payable to CCI. With each membership, you receive:
Five long-term problems that are challenging, user-friendly, and cover a wide variety of subjects.
One non-competitive primary problem, designed to introduce younger students to creative problem solving.

California Odyssey of the Mind
Once you have purchased a membership you will be assigned a membership number. You will then be invoiced from the California Odyssey of the Mind by e-mail (if address is provided) for $65 per membership. The check will be made payable to California Odyssey of the Mind and mailed to the treasurer. This membership fee from the California program is to cover costs in putting on the State tournament. The state tournament is comprised of the top two teams from each problem and division from each region in the state of California.
Region
Each region then must charge a fee to cover their tournament costs as well. The regional fees are PER TEAM not membership and are billed by the region and made payable to that region. ALL fees must be paid prior to participating in the regional tournament. Each region in the state has designed their fees to reflect the size of the tournament they will be hosting. Larger regions often require large tournament sites and therefore cost more to put on.
As an example a regional fee of $40 has been used to show costs below.
To enter one team per membership would cost a mere $240 ($135 Membership package payable to CCI + $65 per membership California State Fee made payable to CALOMER + $40 for Regional Fee made payable to Your Region). If you add another team it would be $40 more or $280, etc.
